10 Tips For Moving Middle Schools and Moving Middle Schoolers

M&N Advice:Moving schools

Moving schools can be so hard, Believe Us... We would know. N and I both arrived at our current middle school on the same day. We were not the first new kids though, we had joined the school after winter break. Everyone or Most Everyone I should say had already settled in. I probably would have never met N but, she was also new and I could relate. Since moving schools is so stressful and scary we have decided to share our wisdom with you.

M's 5 Tips for Moving Schools

5.) Don't be shy and offer your friendship to everyone

4.) Be ready for anything they throw your way, whether you're ahead or behind, education matters

3.) Everyday's a new a day and memories fade, bullies like to target new kids but stay strong

2.) Don't get in trouble with the authorities. Don't worry I mean the teachers, principals, and staff

1.) Have Fun and Embrace the New Learning and Social Chances Schools Offer

Moving Middle Schoolers In General

Moving is tough. Whether it is moving schools, cities, or states even. But it`s tougher in middle school.

Why?...

Some could argue moving to any school is hard. This is true but, Middle School is the first time that you change classes, or change in gym. Its full of twist and turns and moving just makes things worse. Think about elementary school fun and games, right? Not to much if any homework, No switching teachers or classes, and a small easy to navigate school. Life couldn't be better, right? Now fast forward a few years... Middle School. Home of lockers, bullies, loads of homework, new teachers every 45 minutes. Not very fun, right? Now, let's add moving to your already horrible equation. That's what kids everyday are going through and, it happened to US!

     N's 5 Tips

5.) Make new friends and keep the old:
Truly, This is one of the corny songs us Girl Scouts sing but, it is true and useful. Don't forget about your old friends but, don't be afraid to make new ones. You can't get hurt by saying "Hi!" or asking "what is your name." even asking "can I sit with you." I said all these things to M and I'm still in one piece.

4.) Get involved
Join a club, sport, or extracurricular activity and enjoy yourself.

3.) Don't Judge:
People often judge others and don't become best friends like they were destined to (again like M and me). Friends come in all different, colors, shapes, sizes, and quality. Choose your friends wisely but, don't judge a person until you've seen the real them.

2.) Be Brave
Don't show others you're hurt, keep a positive mentality and, don't be afraid to ask questions!

1.) Be Yourself
All adults say "Be Yourself" but, we all know it is really hard to do so. But, if your friends don't like you for who you are, they might not be worth the trouble of changing yourself.

The Cookies Took Us Away. . . . . Troop Leader POV

Wow. . . .
Our Troop has been selling cookies from January till now, so we have missed our blogging time. We are DONE selling cookie for this year, and the ladies have some great things planned for our little blog here.

We had an amazing time selling cookies. We had ladies that did a lot of 'My Sales' and really learned what locations worked and what locations did not. We also learned days and times of days that were better for everyone. (BIG Thanks to Ms. L) who totally hooked us up with our 'My Sales' locations.

Our Troop sold 6,628 boxes of cookies this year! That's more then we have every sold and with the smallest number of girls selling this year.

As a troop leader I am amazed at all the hard work these ladies put forth to sell cookies. They set their own personal goals and more then met them.

Here are my TOP 10 tips for selling Girl Scout Cookies:

10) Make a business plan for YOUR cookies business.

9)  If your able to do My Sales, get those lined up ASAP

8) Set your cookie goal (remember that you can go back to the warehouse for more cookies)

7) If you can set up to receive credit cards.

6) Go door to door, even if 6 homes in a row say no, keep trying.

5) Use your voice - Ask everyone you see if they would like to buy Girl Scout Cookies.

4) After making your deliveries the first week, check with those customers again and see if they need a refill.

3) Work you Girl Scout Cookie Business with a Girl Scout friend.

2) Wear your uniform and/or a Girl Scout shirt during cookie season. People will see that and just ask you if you have cookies!

1) Most of all have fun while selling cookies!

I can't wait to see what the rest of this year brings!

Friendship Advice: Silly Fights

Silly Fights

Silly fights affect us all whether it's about a change in plans, or a change in locker.

"I have a friend that kept changing plans, she stayed at her other BFF's house for a week. Just for a puppy, A puppy.  I was supposed to stay over for a sleepover but she kept staying, and staying, and staying. I never came over till' what seemed like forever, and all she talked about was the puppy. I called her in the middle of her "visit" and heard music from a radio in the background. she told I could not come over, because she was still at her friends house. After that I was so angry I wanted to cry." - R

"My friend and I shared a locker in elementary school. Then some kids moved out of our class. A girl who didn't have a locker buddy any more asked me if I wanted to move into her locker. I simply said no, let me ask K first. K was then asked by this same girl before I got to school the next morning. K moved into her locker when and, when I got to school I was so upset. Luckily for us today we laugh about it all the time." -M

Summary: All in all, people should do their best to avoid silly fights. Even though they seem small and you now probably joke about it, they can actually do damage to your friendships. Sure, it's only a little at a time, but just like not brushing your teeth every day, it all builds up and you'll need major repairs in the end.
Still, no one can always keep these little fights from happening. Although, If you do happen to get in one, just make sure that you and your friend make up and forgive each other. Because, in the end, we're all friends!

My Friend is TOO busy

Dear Girl Scouts,

I have a friend who seems to be to busy to make plans with me. She keeps breaking plans and can't be counted upon. What am I to do?

- Too Busy

Dear Too Busy,

Your friend might not even be aware of what she is doing. Talk with her and make sure she is, a good conversation starter might be "hey, is there a time soon that your free?" or "hey, can we talk?" she might really be too busy to meet with you. Ask her what her schedule is, often times sports, homework, family, band, theater, Girl Scouts, etc. get in the way.

If she really is too busy, you might talk with her and pick out a time that you both know is free for the both of you. Then, talk to your parents and make sure that time works. Plan a get together and have fun!  With today's busy schedule, I know how hard it can be.

If she is just blowing you off you might need to reassess your friendship, is she really your friend? You could also plan events through her parent so you know she is free.

Moon Day 2015

I had the pleasure of taking three ladies to Moon Day 2015 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas to see what Moon Day is all about.

The museum holds Moon Day every year. Let me tell you, if you have the chance to go, take the family, take a group of friends and go!

The ladies got to hear the 1st woman space tourist speak about her trip into space, learn all about the moon, see real moon rock, learn how telescopes work, make paper airplanes, and lots more.

STEM - Coding Camp with AT&T

Coding Camp with AT&T and Bold Idea

Summer is filled with lots of chances to attend camps all over the place.
This summer AT&T asked if they could host some Girl Scouts for a few days at their Plano, TX offices and teach young ladies about how to do computer coding.

My mother asked me 'Hey, "M" do you want to go to this Coding Camp and learn all about computer coding?' I was like ya, sure, sounds like fun I have never done that before. Plus I was thinking it might be fun, three days without my little brother, sounds good to me.

Day 1 -  I was very excited to arrive at Coding Camp. "E" and I were surprised to find out that we had change into special shirts that we had to wear all week. (Hope mom likes doing laundry every night)  We had a lot to get done in three days, so we started right away, with splitting into 6 groups of ladies that would each be working in their every own website with the help of two mentors for each group. We learned a lot that day about HTML Coding and how it works and how to plug it in. We also learned a little about CSS, which is the styling program.

Day 2 - We arrived and went right to our groups to work on our websites. I was in a group that was making a website to educate people about bullies. By the end of the day our website was mostly complete. I also had made three new friends. Our mentors were a lot of help and Bold Idea sent us home with links to our websites so we could touch up our websites before our big presentation on Day 3. I went home that evening and spend hours on the computer touching up my section of the website.

Day 3   - Today was the day our groups arrived and we presented our websites to all the other groups and some special guests. The Mayor and female engineers were their to hear all about our work in the last three days and to speak with us to let us all know that even though we are young ladies we CAN DO ANYTHING! After all the presentations were done we had a tour of the building and then even tough it was pouring outside we were given Popsicles and visited in the lobby while waiting for our transportation home.

I overall had fun and learned a lot. I want to thank AT&T and Bold Idea for putting on the summer Coding Camp for Girl Scouts to attend. I hear that next summer they are planning Geek For Good being even more advanced and I can't wait to attend!
